JOSE MOURINHO will NOT face any further action after being sent to the stands during Manchester United's 1-0 win over Southampton.

Replays showed he had stepped on to the field of play to yell instructions at his players, with play still going on just yards away, which was spotted by fourth official Mike Jones and then passed on to ref Pawson.

He was then asked to leave the touchline for his encroachment, but football chiefs have decided not to punish the 54-year-old after getting the referee's report.

The incident appeared to be taken in good grace by Mourinho, who shook hands with the Southampton coaching staff before departing.

United won narrowly at Southampton thanks to Romelu Lukaku's goal - the big Belgian pounced on a rebound from his own header.

The away side - particularly Phil Jones - were praised for their defensive efforts, as their attacking lacked the sparkle of some of their top flight rivals.

The result leaves United second in the Premier League on goal difference after a fine start to the season, where they have conceded just two goals and scored 17 after five wins and a draw.

Mourinho admitted improper conduct when he kicked a bottle in December last season on the touchline at Old Trafford before being sent to the stands.

The former Chelsea boss then vented his frustration after Paul Pogba was booked for diving in the first half in a 1-1 draw with Hull.

United face CSKA Moscow in the Russian capital on Wednesday night before welcoming winless and goalless Crystal Palace to Old Trafford on Saturday before the international break.
