Leicester were given a extension to get the deal done but the Portugal international's registration was denied by world football's governing body.

Silva has been left in limbo, unable to train with the Foxes squad but the Premier League team have now launched an appeal after negotiations between club officials and lawyers.

There is no time frame over when a decision will be made.

But there is a possibility that Silva's signing will be approved but he will be unable to play until January.

Foxes boss Craig Shakespeare is eager to get the deal done as soon as possible after selling Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea in a £35m deal.

Shakespeare said: “There is a legal process going on where Fifa will decide what is happening with him, the quicker it is sorted the better.

“We’d love to have more answers but unfortunately we have to wait.
"Obviously I want to make him feel welcome because he’s a player we identified a long time ago.

“He is frustrated because this is World Cup year but he understands what the legal side of it is as well.”
