Cristiano Ronaldo puts Manchester United on alert after refusing to commit to new Real Madrid contract extension

Four-time Ballon d'Or-winner appear close to leaving La Liga giants in summer following his tax fraud charge

CRISTIANO RONALDO has put Manchester United on red alert after refusing to commit to a new contract at Real Madrid.

The four-time Ballon d'Or-winner scored his fourth goal in two Champions League games during the 3-1 win at Borussia Dortmund.

And, when he was asked after the match whether he was looking at extending his deal, he stopped short of saying yes.

He explained: "I am happy here, and things happen naturally.

"This is more a question for the president, but I am happy here, doing what I love.

"I am happy many of my team-mates, whose contracts were running out, have signed new ones."

Ronaldo also denied reports he had been looking to leave Real Madrid in the summer.

It had been suggested he was unhappy at the Bernabeu following a perceived lack of protection after he was charged with defrauding the Spanish government of £13million in unpaid tax.

And he was soon linked with a return to United.

However, he was asked if he had ever been looking to leave the club following the match in Dortmund, to which Ronaldo, 32, firmly replied: "Those words never came out of my mouth.

"People talk about me everyday all over the world, but I live for football and my family — not what is written about me in the press."

Ronaldo, who scored four goals in his first two Champions League matches of the season, then humbly added: "Sometimes, it comes from Portugal, from Spain or from Germany.

"It is because the name Cristiano is world news.

"When you are great, people talk about you."
