After finally overcoming concerns about his fitness levels, the left-back suffered a broken leg that kept him out of action for a year.

And since fighting his way back to fitness he has found it hard to make an impression on manager Jose Mourinho.

Shaw has made just one first team appearance for United this season in the Carabao Cup victory over Burton Albion.

But he has been overlooked by the United boss in Premier League and Champions League matches this season with Matteo Darmian now his first choice in that role.

Mourinho has even opted to field Ashley Young in the position when Darmian has missed out, in a further sign that Shaw is a long way down the pecking order for chances.

But the 22-year-old appears to be as determined as ever to prove he can be a success as a United player despite constant speculation the club are looking to move him on.

And three years to the day since he made his debut for United against West Ham following his £27million move from Southampton, Shaw took to social media to promise better is to come.

He said: "Three years ago today I made my debut for @ManUtd. Time flies but there is much more to come! #ProudToBeARed #MUFC"

Shaw is now just waiting for an opportunity to show Mourinho he is back to the kind of form he was showing two years ago before suffering his horror injury in a Europa League match against PSV Eindhoven.

He is unlikely to feature in the Champions League match against CSKA Moscow tonight, but there is a chance he may be part of the squad for the visit of Crystal Palace on Saturday.
