He is allowed to speak to teams around Europe in January, and can sign a pre-contract agreement before leaving on a free.

The 29-year-old has been looked at by a number of sides, including Turkish giants Galatasaray.

And United believe they will have to up Fellaini's £130.000-a-week wages to stop him leaving Old Trafford.

An Old Trafford source said: “There is a fear that Marouane will only stay here with a major pay increase.

“He is on good money already, but feels he has a worth. They are in a difficult spot with him out of contract next summer.

“The club already took out their 12-month option to extend his deal back in January, so it's proving difficult.

“He wants to stay by all accounts, but has seen the club hand big money in recent seasons to new arrivals."

Jose Mourinho loves the ex-Everton ace, who has put in a string of solid performances so far this season.

Fellaini joined United from the Toffees for £27.5m in 2013 after being snapped-up by David Moyes.

He struggled to adapt to the club at first, but has gone on to make 95 Premier League appearances and score eleven goals, including twice at the weekend.
