According to the Birmingham Mail, the Eagles would be willing to sell the Welsh international after he failed to assert himself in the Premier League.

Despite featuring for the Black Cats five times this season under Simon Grayson, Palace can still offload Williams if a serious offer comes in from elsewhere.

Birmingham - currently in the relegation zone sitting in 22nd spot - are crying out for some creativity in the middle of the park as they look to avoid relegation to League One.

And they could turn to Williams who was part of the Palace squad that were promoted via the play-off route in the 2012/13 season.

He has an abundance of experience in England's second-tier, with loan spells to Nottingham Forest, MK Dons and Ipswich Town in recent years.

And after failing to hold down a regular place in the Palace squad since making his debut in 2011, he looks likely to be shipped off once again in the winter transfer window.

Roy Hodgson's side risk losing Williams on a free as his contract is set to expire next summer.

And it is has been reported that Palace would jump at the chance if a club comes in with a suitable offer.

Williams - capped 17 times by the Welsh national side - was part of the squad that reached the semi-finals of Euro 2016.
