Liverpool are the ‘Amir Khan’ of football and always get knocked-out, claims Joey Barton
Liverpool dropped more points at Newcastle on Sunday to fall even further behind the Manchester pacesetters and Barton insists the Kop will not challenge for title
JOEY BARTON has caused a stir on Merseyside branding Liverpool the Amir Khan of football.
Liverpool were disappointing in their 1-1 draw against Newcastle at St James’ Park after being pegged back by the Premier League new boys.
Jurgen Klopp’s side have won just three of their seven league games so far and are seven points off the pace being set by Manchester City and Manchester United.
Klopp is adamant his troops will kick into gear soon and stay they distance in the title race.
But Barton was not having any of it and dismissed their chance of challenging for the title and believes like Khan, they look good, but are vulnerable to the knockout.
The Reds have been praised for their attacking brand of football this term, but have looked shaky in defence and no one has conceded more than their 11 goals away from home so far.
Speaking on the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast, he said: "They are so chinny, to use a boxing analogy.
"They throw a great array of punches, they are lovely going forward, but they remind me of Amir Khan.
