The two sides clashed after United had ended the Gunners' 49-match unbeaten run with a 2-0 win in a bad-tempered match in October 2004.

Tempers raged as both sets of players made their way to the dressing rooms and a fight broke out in the tunnel.

During the spat, Ferguson was hit in the face by a pizza thrown from someone on the Arsenal staff - but until now Fabregas had never come forward to admit he launched the slice.

Ex-Arsenal star Ashley Cole wrote in his autobiography: "All eyes turned and all mouths gawped to see this pizza slip off that famous puce face and roll down his nice black suit."

And Ferguson has also admitted: "They say it was Cesc Fabregas who threw the pizza at me but, to this day, I have no idea who the culprit is."

But now, Fabregas has come clean during an appearance on Sky One's A League Of Their Own game show after being questioned by James Corden.

Corden said: "Tonight can we finally put the case of the flying pizza to bed once and for all, were you the culprit that thew the pizza?’

Fabregas responded: "Yes!!!!!”

Jack Whitehall then asked: "Did you just throw it and then dug for cover? Is that why no one saw? Like  a sly one?"

Fabregas added: "Martin Keown is a liar because I saw him in front of me just, like, punching people so he didn’t see anything.

"All of a sudden… I heard noises and I thought what’s happening so I go out with my slice of pizza and I saw Sol Campbell, Rio Ferdinand, Martin Keown everyone pushing each other

"I was like I want to get in but I don’t know how to and I just threw it.

"Once I saw it was hitting like who it was hitting which I didn’t mean…I apologise Sir Alex, really didn’t mean to do that."

Jamie Redknapp then asked where the pizza had hit him, and Fabregas responded by slowly tapping the side of his face.
