Arsenal star Alexandre Lacazette reveals he snubbed Paris Saint-Germain in order to complete £52million summer move
Ex-Lyon ace targeted by French giants before they eventually moved to sign Neymar from Barcelona for world-record fee
ALEXANDRE LACAZETTE has revealed he turned down Paris Saint-Germain in order to join Arsenal.
The £52million summer signing has already bagged four goals in just six Premier League appearances for the Gunners.
And fans are excited to see how much further Lacazette can progress as the striker adapts to life in England.
But Arsenal could have missed on the Frenchman had PSG been successful in their negotiations over the summer.
The super-rich Ligue 1 giants ended up spending a world-record fee on Barcelona ace Neymar, but originally held talks with Lacazette over a move to the Parc des Princes.
However, Lacazette was not interested after spending eight seasons at rivals Lyon, explaining: “We talked with PSG but quickly I knew that it wasn’t where I wanted to go.
“In France, for me, it was only Lyon. PSG could have enabled me to make progress because they have great players but I wanted to experience another league.”
Reflecting on his progress and a budding partnership with Alexis Sanchez, Lacazette added: “The main difference is that the game is a lot more physical.
“The pace of the game is also very different. I now really understand what it means to play box-to-box.
“One of the reasons I wanted to come – to play with players of [Sanchez’s] calibre. I like the way he plays and his mental attitude. His approach makes me want to play alongside him.”
