And ahead of captaining England against Slovenia tonight at Wembley, Kane was quizzed on a potential La Liga switch.

He said: “I would never say no. I would never say yes.

"I think in football, you never know and you never rule out anything. It is not something that I definitely want to do but it could happen. You just never know.

“Like you said, at the moment, I am very happy where I am here – that is all that matters. We will see what happens, but for now that is all I am focusing on.”

Kane - who is aiming to be named Wayne Rooney's permanent successor as skipper - has 11 goals in nine club games this season despite not finding the target in August.

And Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate praised the front man's maturity and leadership.

He said: "He's certainly someone whose leadership qualities are invaluable to us as a team and he's clearly in a very good moment in his form.

"We really enjoy working with him and I've known him a long time. He's improved and is maturing all the time as well.

"The important thing for me was when we looked at the group of players at the start, we saw potential leaders but lads who hadn't had experience of leading and how do we allow for that to happen, and how do we give them a feel of it, and I think that's worked well over the last few months.

"All of those experiences will stand them in good stead. Different situations, different opportunities to be in front of people, sharing a responsibility of team. I think that's key."
