And Atletico are keen to ensure that Costa will be in tip-top condition for his January comeback.

The striker is now doing one-on-one sessions with fitness coach Oscar ‘The Professor’ Ortega.

And Costa cut a weary figure as he performed a number of exercises under the scorching sun.

The Spain international worked up a real sweat as he continuously ran up and down a stationary step while kicking a ball each time.

But Costa was forced to keep up with Ortega as the speed of the exercise increased, which was designed to improve fitness and coordination at the same time.

The 28-year-old also did some work with a powerbag, shifting it from side-to-side to improve his core and arms.

Despite not training up until now, Costa still looked to be in good shape as the rest of his team-mates carried out their own drills around him.

And Atleti fans are sure to be counting down the days until the New Year when Costa can finally make his second debut for the club.
