Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain boots bottle in frustration after being subbed during England’s 1-0 win against Slovenia

ALEX OXLADE-CHAMBERLAIN has come in for more criticism after booting a bottle in frustration at being subbed.

The £40million midfielder struggled in England's 1-0 win against Slovenia and was replaced by Jesse Lingard 64 minutes in.

And the former Arsenal man vented his anger as he walked to the bench by kicking a water bottle near the technical area.

The Ox, 24, has had a tough time since moving to Merseyside but was still selected to earn his 30th cap by Gareth Southgate.

He started the 2-1 win over Slovakia at Wembley on September 4 but has managed only 164 minutes for Liverpool since then.

His sole start was the 2-0 Carabao Cup defeat at Leicester, while his performances have drawn stinging criticism from Reds fans.

And his performance at Wembley – as well as his behaviour after being subbed – has got fans on his back yet again on Twitter.

Twitter user @Alex_Humphries posted: "Oh look, Oxlade-Chamberlain isn't on the field anymore, and suddenly England are creating chances! #WhodHaveThought#ENGSLO."

And @rachealsmith_13 commented: Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain took his frustrations out by kicking a water bottle when he came off. It went wide..."

Oxlade-Chamberlain's critisism had began even before he had stepped on the pitch for the World Cup qualifier.

Arsenal legend Paul Merson claimed the ex-Southanpton man would not be good enough for the England team 20 years ago.

Merson said: "You look in midfield and Oxlade-Chamberlain will be very fortunate to play.

"In my day and age he wouldn’t even be in the squad."

"That’s the problem now, the squad virtually picks itself. There’s not a huge amount of depth and it is harder to get out of the squad than it is to get in it."
