Dalglish is one of Liverpool greatest ever players winning nine league titles and three European Cup wins as a player and manager at Anfield

LIVERPOOL are set to unveil the Kenny Dalglish stand before they face fierce local rivals Manchester United after the international break.

The Merseysiders announced the Centenary Stand will be renamed to honour one of the club’s most celebrated icons.

Work on renaming the stand has already started with Dalglish’s name spelled out in illuminated letters.

To mark the historic event, fans watching on the Kop will lift coloured cards ahead of kick-off to form a mosaic, as well as the matchday programme dedicated to the 66-year-old.

King Kenny joined the Liverpool from Celtic in 1977 and hit 169 goals in 502 games over a thirteen year period.

He was then appointed player-manager in 1985 and continued in the role until 1991, before later returning for a short spell in 2011 replacing Roy Hodgson.

His first spell in Anfield hot-seat was one of the most successful periods in the club's history.

The Scot won six First Division titles, the FA Cup, four League Cups and the European Cup in 1978, 1981 and 1984.

As manager, he led Liverpool to three more league titles, two FA Cups and another League Cup.

Liverpool face United at Anfield in the Premier League lunchtime kick-off on October 14.
