Liverpool shake up medical department again with the surprise departure of head physio Andy Renshaw

Renshaw was only in role for a year and in a recent interview with a Liverpool fan website he spoke about his  record at Anfield

LIVERPOOL have parted company with head of physiotherapy Andy Renshaw, according to reports.

Renshaw has worked at the Academy since 2009 and stepped up to working with Jurgen Klopp and his first-team following the departure of Chris Morgan.

The Daily Telegraph report Klopp has decided on another shake up of the medical department after just two years at Anfield.

Wales’ fitness and conditioning coach Ryland Morgans, who was part of the Brendan Rodgers regime, was another high-profile exit shortly after Klopp’s appointment.

But the timing of Renshaw's departure comes as something of a surprise, recently he gave an interview with a Liverpool fan site and there was no hint he was about to leave.

He told Rousing The Kop: “I started in July 2016, and during that season we reduced preventable (non-contact, soft tissue) injuries by 63 per cent compared to the season prior.

“The days missed due to these reduced from 623 days for season 2015-16, to 144 days missed during 2016-17.

“The number of these injuries also reduced from 30 in 2015-16 to 11 in 2016-17.

“In 2015-16 there were 17 hamstring injuries, last season we had three. I could go on believe me.”

Just like any other manager, Klopp has looked to work with staff he has known and trusted throughout his coaching career.

Klopp drafted in Andreas Kornmeyer from Bayern Munich a year ago and Christopher Rohrbeck from his former club Mainz.

Adam Lallana is Liverpool's only long-term absentee due to a thigh injury sustained in pre-season.

There were also concerns over Philippe Coutinho at the start of the campaign although his injury problems coincided with Barcelona's interest in taking him to the Nou Camp.

It is not clear who will take on medical duties for the visit of Manchester United next Saturday.
