PAUL SCHOLES rolled back the years with a faultless display in a charity match on Sunday in aid of North West Air Ambulance.

The 42-year-old showed he's still capable of producing moments of magic as he got on the score sheet in a 3-3 draw at Trafford FC.

Joined on the pitch at Shawe View by the likes of former Manchester United team-mates Denis Irwin, David May and Danny Webber, a number of TV soap stars were also in action.

May, Webber and former Everton ace Peter Reid played alongside Scholes in radio DJ's Mike Sweeney's All Star XI against Jet2 TV All Stars XI.

The English midfielder netted the opener and even embarrassed Sam Aston - who plays Chesney Brown in the ITV soap opera with a cheeky nutmeg.

While he also showed friendship doesn't belong on a football pitch with a textbook sliding challenge on Irwin.

Speaking of the match, Scholes said: "The game is a bit more relaxed and you try and entertain but it is just the same if you are playing in front of 70,000 people or 1,000, you try and shut it out and play.

"I’m miles off where I was before I retired, but I play in these matches now and again, I just enjoy playing football."

Around £3,000 was raised for the Air Ambulance, with Irwin, 51, saying after the match: "I found it hard work, I pulled my hamstring in a testimonial seven weeks ago and this was my first blow out so I’ll sleep tonight.

"Scholesy is a bit younger than me and we did alright but he was always the best in training by a country mile."

Other soap stars included Andy Whyment, who plays Kirk Sutherland on Corrie, and Adam Thomas, known for his role of Adam Barton in Emmerdale.

Whyment said of the day: "I’ve been involved with the All Stars for about 18 years, I’m not the greatest player but I really enjoy it and as a Red playing against Scholes is mega.

"He doesn’t run much but he doesn’t have to as he reads the game and it’s hard keeping up with him but a great experience."

While Andy Burnham - Mayor of Greater Manchester - also took the pitch, and even won a penalty in the game, which was converted by former United man Webber.
