He has played just one minute of Premier League action since, with the Old Trafford boss preferring more natural left-backs Matteo Darmian and Ashley Young.

Luke Shaw is also an option once he fully returns from injury.

According to Turkish news outlet Hurriyet, Galatasaray are now favourites to land him and could do so by January.

Blind, 27, told United's official club page: "If you have a big squad, the competition is high in the training sessions.

"It makes you better as a player and also as a team, and it shows the strength of the competition if someone comes in and they’re ready. I think it’s very good."

But the opportunity of regular first-team football may prove too good an offer to turn down should Galatasaray come calling.

A World Cup qualifying miracle against Sweden tonight, in which Holland must win 7-0, would also highlight the need for minutes on the pitch ahead of next year's tournament.

Blind was an important cog in Louis van Gaal's United team, operating in central midfield, defence and as a full-back when required.

And Mourinho utilised the Dutchman in his first season at United after injuries to key players.

Former Premier League stars Nigel de Jong, Fernando, Jason Denayer and Sofiane Feghouli are all on Galatasaray's books.

The club finished fourth in Turkey's Super Lig with Besiktas winning the title.
