Arsenal transfer news: Mesut Ozil set for humiliating climbdown as NO CLUBS are prepared to pay his £330,000-a-week wage demands

MESUT OZIL is facing a humiliating Arsenal climbdown after failing to attract any offers for his services.

The German international is in the final year of his Gunners contract after rejecting all the club’s efforts to extend his stay in North London.

But no club is willing to meet his mammoth £330,000-a-week wage demands even though he could become available as a free agent at the end of the season.

Now Ozil’s advisors may be forced to go back to Arsenal and try to revive the £250,000-a-week deal which he turned down in the summer.

The playmaker, 28, expected a mad scramble for his signature when it became clear he was looking to move on.

But Turkish champions Besiktas are the only side to have shown a serious interest and they are not able to pay anything like the £17million a year he is after.

Inter Milan are also monitoring Ozil’s situation but even the Italian giants are unwilling to give him more than he has already been offered by Arsenal.

And while Jose Mourinho retains a good relationship with Ozil from their time together at Real Madrid, he is not convinced the lightweight star can provide what he needs at Manchester United.

Even Gunners boss Arsene Wenger is starting to have second thoughts about the player’s value after spending so much time and energy trying to keep him at the Emirates.

Ozil, who cost a then club-record £42.5m when he joined from Real in 2013, is currently Arsenal’s highest-paid player on a basic £150,000 per week.

But he has been holding out for more than double that figure to sign a new contract — despite mounting criticism over his contribution to the team.

And the fact the Gunners have now gone six games unbeaten while Ozil has been recovering from a slightly swollen knee has raised further questions about his worth to the side.

The midfielder is settled in London and enjoys working with Wenger.

But he complains he has been made the scapegoat for all of Arsenal’s shortcomings in recent seasons.

Boss Wenger is already resigned to losing Chilean star Alexis Sanchez, 28, as a free agent at the end of the season and is reluctant to let Ozil leave for nothing as well.

He still hopes he can persuade the German World Cup winner to sign a new Gunners deal.

But he will listen to offers in the region of £20m in January if no agreement can be reached by the end of the year.
