GARETH BALE has told Chris Coleman: You’re the man — don’t quit.

Bale led a delegation of senior players trying to convince the Wales boss into rethinking his vow to step down after their World Cup agony.

The Real Madrid star said: “What he has done for Welsh football has been amazing. Of course we want him to stay.”

Cookie, 47, insisted he would leave his post at the end of this campaign and his contract runs out next month.

Monday’s 1-0 loss to the Republic of Ireland wrecked Welsh dreams of a first World Cup since 1958.

But crocked Bale, who watched from a hospitality box at the Cardiff City Stadium, sought out Coleman in a bid to make him change his mind.

Bale, 28, said: “He couldn’t have taken on the job at a more difficult time and what we’ve collectively achieved since then has been amazing.

“We don’t want to keep on looking back at the Euros but it was incredible to be a part of that and we all want that again.

"It won’t be easy but Chris is the man who can keep us focused and positive and show us how to get the results we need.”

Coleman, who took charge in 2012 after the death of Gary Speed, said he was “not thinking about” his future but did admit he would have talks with his FAW bosses.

As well as the players, Dragons fans and FAW board members want Coleman to stay for the Euro 2020 qualifiers.

Right-back Chris Gunter said: “Everyone in Wales — fans and players — would want to see him 100 per cent carry on being the greatest Welsh manager of all time.”
