Manchester United star Juan Mata rejects Chinese Super League move and is set to extend current contract instead
Spaniard has less than a year remaining on his deal but United are set to trigger an automatic one-season extension clause
JUAN MATA has reportedly rejected a lucrative move to the Chinese Super League.
The Mirror claims Manchester United’s Spanish playmaker has turned down the chance to greatly improve his £165,000-a-week wages.
And Mata will instead see his current contract extended by one year, with Jose Mourinho set to trigger a clause to prevent the ace from leaving for free next summer.
Meanwhile, it’s also said that Ander Herrera will see his Old Trafford stay automatically extended until 2019.
The midfielder is another star out of contract at the end of the campaign.
But once Herrera’s short-term future is confirmed, the report adds that United will then offer him fresh figures with the view to an even longer stay.
Last season’s club Player of the Year is yet to make much of an impact since August.
Herrera has suffered following the arrival of Nemanja Matic, with Mourinho also opting for a 4-2-3-1 formation instead of his usual 4-3-3.
But with Paul Pogba and Marouane Fellaini both out with long-term injuries, Herrera could now have a chance to prove his worth once again.
United travel to Liverpool this weekend before flying to Benfica next week for an important Champions League clash.
