Australia star Tim Cahill performed PAID celebration against Syria after scoring the winner in World Cup qualifier

Former Everton star didn't do usual shadow-boxing with corner flag as it emerges 'T' shape was a sponsored sign

TIM CAHILL has been criticised for performing a PAID celebration after scoring Australia’s winner against Syria on Tuesday.

The former Everton star poked home the crucial goal to send his country through to the next stage of World Cup qualifiers.

And after finding the back of the net, Cahill then celebrated by touching his hands together in the shape of a T.

Many were left confused, with the ace’s usual celebration involving him shadow-boxing with the corner flag.

However, it soon emerged that Cahill had actually been paid to do the celebration after becoming the ambassador of TripADeal.

The company showed a picture of Cahill performing his celebration and explained the reason behind it in a post which was later deleted.

It read: “Did you catch @tim_cahill, our new bran ambassador, doing the TripADeal ‘T’ after he scored the winning goal last night? Congratulations Tim!”

Managing director Norm Black said afterwards: “This is the first step for us to formalise something on top of our really solid friendship.

“This is a great stepping stone to bigger and better things. For us there is nobody better to have linked to your brand. There is no higher respected sportsman in the country.”

But fans were not impressed, with one writing: “This just shows Tim Cahill only cares about the $ and self promotion, a goal celebration is not the time to promote a brand that’s paying you.”
