Tottenham star Harry Kane set to break Alan Shearer’s Premier League goals record in 2025

Former Blackburn and Newcastle striker netted an era-leading 260 times, with Kane set to smash that barrier in his career

TOTTENHAM star Harry Kane looks set to break Alan Shearer's Premier League record for goals midway through the 2025-26 season.

Former Blackburn and Newcastle striker Shearer netted an era-leading 260 times in his glittering career.

But his fellow Englishman Kane is on course to smash that barrier in his career - having scored 18 more goals at the same stage.

With 90 goals in 130 Premier League games Kane, 24, had already hinted he could break the 260-goal barrier.

But thanks to research from SmartBets, we've crunched the numbers to show just why he WILL.

If Kane plays in 31.5 matches per season - Shearer's career average - and continues at his current rate of 0.68 goals per game, he would reach the mark aged 32, in December 2025.

Having played in the old First Division before the Premier League began in 1992, Shearer can point to his all-time league tally of 283 goals.

But Kane is projected to surpass that mark just over a year later, towards the back-end of 2026-27.

Next in his sights will be Greaves’ all-time top-flight goal-scoring record, with the 1966 World Cup winner netting 357 English league goals.

If Kane retires at the age of 35, like Shearer, he’ll come up agonisingly close – ending with a projected career of 337 goals in 494 league games.

However, should he carry on, he’s due to break Greaves’ record towards the end of the 2027-28 campaign, at the age of 36.

When looking at Kane and Shearer at the same stages of their careers, the Spurs man has already edged ahead.

At the exact same age as Kane is today - 24 years, two months and 14 days as of the October 12 - Kane had 18 more goals in all competitions than the Match of the Day pundit, despite playing fewer times.

He’s also established himself at international level, netting 12 times in 23 caps for England - compared to five in 12 for Shearer - and holding the captain’s armband.
