Tottenham star Josh Onomah reveals how Chelsea legend John Terry is helping him to become a Premier League player at Aston Villa
TOTTENHAM starlet Josh Onomah has revealed how Chelsea legend John Terry is helping him become a man and hopefully a Premier League player.
The 20-year-old midfielder was sent out to Aston Villa on loan at the start of the season to gain some first-team experience.
The prospect of leaving home in London for the Second City will have been daunting for one so young.
However, he exclusively explained to SunSport how Stamford Bridge icon Terry, who signed from the Blues in the summer, has helped him to find his feet.
Onomah said: "JT in particular has helped me settle in well. He’s from London like me and he’s a really good role model.
"To have him around the dressing room always talking to me gives me massive confidence.
“He's an experienced head and knows exactly what he's doing, so I always listen to the advice he gives me because he is definitely someone I can learn from.”
The England Under-21 international continued: “It’s crazy to watch these huge players and role models on TV as a kid and then have them alongside you in the dressing room.
“It’s great to see what they are really like. JT is a very humble guy and I just feel privileged to be able to learn from him.”
Onomah and his Villa team-mates face a huge local derby against Championship high-flyers Wolves on Saturday.

Former Manchester United captain Steve Bruce’s side have been king of the Midlands for years, but a steady decline finally led to relegation two years ago.
And even though he has only been in Birmingham a matter of months, Onomah knows how important this game is for the fans and the club as they look to extend their three-match winning run.
He said: “You can feel the tension leading up to it. It’s a massive game.
“Wolves are doing really well, so if we can get the win it will really give us the confidence.
“We have got a bit of momentum at the moment, and being at home, that will really help us against them.
“The first part of the season we struggled to hit top form but after the first international break we got going.
“The squad has got used to each other, and now it feels we have got good vibes between us on and off the pitch. That’s shown in our form, we’ve drawn two and won three in our last five games.”
It’s not just Villa who have hit a purple patch recently, with Onomah himself also enjoying a rich vein of form.
He grabbed his first goal for Villa against Bristol City in August before adding to his total against Burton last month.
And after his stunning strike for England against Scotland a week ago, he revealed shooting more is something Bruce is trying to help introduce to his game.
Onomah added: “The gaffer said to me that he wants me to become a goalscoring midfielder and I’ve always wanted that to be part of my game as well.
“To score against Burton and then against Scotland has been a real positive. I’ve got to try and keep the momentum going now, which I can hopefully do at the weekend.”
