Adrien Silva handed No 14 shirt by Leicester… after missing transfer deadline by 14 seconds

Portugal star begins training with Leicester team-mates but kitman plays sadistic joke on him with jersey number

ADRIEN SILVA looked to be the butt of all jokes in Leicester training after being handed the No 14 shirt.

The number is significant to the Portugal midfielder... because he missed his transfer deadline-day move by just 14 seconds.

Craig Shakespeare's side are now considering going to the Court of Arbitration for Sport over the saga.

But that appeal process looked a long way from the face of Silva in the intense workout session.

And even the Foxes kitman had a laugh at his expense by handing him the aptly numbered shirt.

Leicester and the FA had asked Fifa, the game's governing body, to rubber stamp the paperwork for Silva's £22million switch move from Sporting Lisbon.

But that was denied and now the Foxes are looking at being without Silva until January.

Boss Shakespeare admitted he was disappointed with Fifa's decision but praised Silva's desire to knuckle down and get on with things.

He said of Silva: "I can thankfully report he is training with us.

"Obviously we are disappointed with the decision by Fifa and the other processes are in the hands of the club.

"But he is training with us and I speak to him on a regular basis during training to make sure he's fully focused on what his requirements are.

"Ultimately he's a footballer and he wants to play football and train.

"He's had to miss out not only on club football but international football and we've tried to keep his spirits up.

"The camaraderie and the banter is brilliant in and around the changing rooms and I wanted to integrate him as quickly as possible and I can do that now.

"He's out on the training pitch now which is great for him and great for me."
