Meanwhile, Mourinho also revealed Michael Carrick will not be available to play in the lunch-time kick-off at Anfield.

Lukaku had been suffering from an ankle problem sustained in the 4-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace.

However, Belgium boss Roberto Martinez risked facing the wrath of Mourinho by playing the star forward in the dead-dubber against Cyprus.

United forward Lukaku - who has scored seven Premier League goals already this season - had sat out the game against Bosnia and Herzegovina.

But Martinez declared his hitman “100 per cent fit” before bringing him on after 66 minutes against Cyprus in their final World Cup qualifier on Tuesday.

Before seeing Lukaku net in the 4-0 win, Mourinho said: "If he plays it’s because he has recovered."

With Martinez's side already qualified, he sarcastically added: "It’s a very important match for them.

"They need the match to qualify so I just wait."
