Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp says he always knew Romelu Lukaku would become ‘world class’ ahead of Manchester United clash

LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp has admitted he always knew Romelu Lukaku would become "world class" ahead of his side coming up against the striker.

Lukaku has made a blistering start to his Manchester United career, bagging 11 goals in just ten games in all competitions.

Yet Klopp, whose Liverpool side welcome Jose Mourinho and his troops to Anfield on Saturday, says Lukaku was world class even before his £75million move to United.

Speaking at the pre-match presser, the German boss said: "He has matured, of course. He's still a young player.

"I don't think there was any doubt at any point of his career that he would be a world-class striker - and he was already a world-class striker at Everton.

"Now, being around these other fantastic players at Man United helps him and he has helped the team so far a lot."

Klopp went on to praise Lukaku's determination to score the goals that have seen United rise up to second spot in the Premier League.

He added: "They have been real goal-getter goals. It was: first try? No. Second try? There. And then do it again. It was not always fantastic play, it was fighting for goals.

"He clearly enjoys life in this team a lot. He has all the confidence you need as a striker and I'm sure he's improved since he joined Manchester."

SunSport reported earlier today how Mourinho has confirmed Lukaku is fit to play against Liverpool on Saturday.

The Belgian forward, 24, had been struggling with a minor injury while on international duty, but could start against the Reds.

Lukaku had been suffering from an ankle problem sustained in the 4-0 drubbing of Crystal Palace.
