Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho receives Louis van Gaal tongue-lashing as Dutchman recalls his own sacking in 2016
Former Red Devils manager believes Mourinho 'goes out of control too often' and isn't happy with his recent behaviour
LOUIS VAN GAAL claims Manchester United successor Jose Mourinho “goes out of control too often.”
The Dutchman was unceremoniously sacked by the Red Devils in 2016 shortly after winning the FA Cup.
Mourinho was quickly announced as his successor, and it later emerged that United had been wooing the Special One for quite some time.
Ed Woodward’s behaviour infuriated Van Gaal, who has tried to avoid blaming Mourinho for his Old Trafford departure.
But the Dutchman has now aimed both barrels at his former Barcelona assistant after the pair were reunited at Anfield for Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Liverpool.
Van Gaal said: “How I have suspected it, the way his transfer as a manager to Manchester United went was not elegant at all, that resulted in my sacking.
“In principle, he (Mourinho) is not a bad guy. He can be sympathetic and he was this way when he was my assistant in the past. But he lets himself go out of control too often.”
Van Gaal also aimed a dig at United’s poor performance on Merseyside, adding: “I have great memories and my relationship with all the staff and fans was great during my time at United.
“Our CEO promised me six bottles of Ribeiro red wine every time I would beat Liverpool.
“Well, I won four times, so I had a lot of those bottles.”
