Bradley Barry rescued by referee Darren Drysdale after Gareth Barry’s cousin swallowed his tongue playing for Chesterfield against Morcambe
Defender was knocked out by the ball but the 22-year-old was helped to recover by the match official and played on
BRADLEY BARRY revealed how ref Darren Drysdale came to his rescue when he was knocked out cold.
The Chesterfield defender, 22, swallowed his tongue in the first half against Morecambe on Saturday but Drysdale’s quick-thinking prevented a serious situation.
He put Barry — nephew of Prem star Gareth — in the recovery position and the right-back was able to play on after several minutes of treatment.
Barry said: “I went to make a block and the ball hit me point-blank in the side of the temple.
“Everything went black and my tongue was down my throat.
“I was on my back and struggling to breathe.
"But he knew exactly what he was doing and flipped me over.
“I was lucky because it could have been a lot worse but for the ref who sorted me out.
“I’m very grateful.”
