MANCHESTER CITY have already scored as many goals after EIGHT games than in the ENTIRE 2006-07 Premier League season.

Pep Guardiola's men tore Stoke to shreds on Saturday afternoon to run out 7-2 winners at the Etihad Stadium.

Having stormed to a 3-0 lead thanks to goals from Gabriel Jesus, Raheem Sterling and David Silva.

But they were given a scare after Mame Biram Diouf and a Kyle Walker own goal made it 3-2 early in the second-half.

However, in typically City-fashion, the Eastlands giants steamrolled their way to the three points, with Jesus, Fernandinho, Leroy Sane and Bernardo Silva completing the rout.

In scoring their seventh, City incredibly equalled their tally from the entire 2006-07 season, then under the leadership of Stuart Pearce.

Interestingly, Man City are now the first top-flight team to net 29 goals in their first eight league games of the season since Everton in 1894-95.

The Manchester club endured a dreary, sub-par 2006-07, a year before the 2008, mega-money takeover - scoring an horrendous 29 goals from their 38 games.

Amazingly, Pearce's men managed to avoid the drop, finishing 14th with just 42 points in a nervy relegation battle.

City lost their last THREE games and failed to win in their final six outings as they made things really tough on themselves.

Man City Premier League results 2017-18

Aug 26 - Bournemouth (A) - 1-2
Sep 9 - Liverpool (H) - 5-0
Sep 16 - Watford (A) - 0-6
Sep 23 - Crystal Palace (H) - 5-0
Sep 30 - Chelsea (A) - 1-0
Oct 14 - Stoke (H) - 7-2

A real sign of the rough season comes in the fact that Joey Barton was that season's top scorer... with just SIX goals.

Georgios Samaras scored four, while DaMarcus Beasley, Bernaro Corradi, Emile Mpenza and Darius Vassell scored just three times.

For context's sake, Sergio Aguero, Jesus and Sterling have ALL scored six times in the league... after just eight games, rather than 38.

It's fair to argue the squad consisting of the likes of Paul Dickov, Nicky Weaver, Danny Mills and Sun Jihai has nothing on the 2017-18 crop.

After all, Guardiola's giants are now outright leaders at the top of the Premier League already, with 22 points from their eight games - dropping just two points.

With a goal difference of an eye-watering +25 and a projected goals scored total of a record-shattering 137, this City crop could be one for the history books.

The current record for most goals in a Prem season is 103, set by the 2009-10 Chelsea squad.

It's hard to see that tally standing atop the list for much longer though, at this rate...
