Leicester not considering ex-boss Nigel Pearson for manager’s position and have no replacement lined up yet

NIGEL PEARSON will NOT be making a shock return to Leicester as manager.

Yesterday the Foxes sacked Craig Shakespeare after only four months as permanent manager, and speculation was rife that Pearson could make a sensational return.

But according to the Leicester Mercury, Pearson, who was replaced in the hotseat at the King Power in June 2015 by Claudio Ranieri, will not be getting his feet back under the desk.

The rift between Pearson and the club's Thai owners had been healed in recent months, with the 54-year-old even handed the manager's reins at Leicester's Belgian sister-club OH Leuven.

But owner Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha will not be plunging for round two with Pearson, and is instead aiming "for a high-profile successor", according to The Telegraph.

One manager who would fit that bill is Carlo Ancelotti, recently sacked by Bayern Munich and out of work.

However, it could take a lot to persuade the Italian that Leicester are the club for him.

Other names that are being bandied around are Sam Allardyce, and the likes of Huddersfield's David Wagner, Burnley's Sean Dyche and Watford's Marco Silva.

Shakespeare has paid the price for Leicester's poor start to the season with the side currently slumped third from bottom in the Premier League.

The 53-year-old was hauled in for a meeting by club chairman Srivaddhanaprabha after the 1-1 draw at home to West Brom on Monday.

And the Thai owner made it clear that one win from the opening eight matches of the season was not good enough for the former Premier League winners.

Shakespeare was only given the job on a permanent basis four months ago having taken charge on an interim basis following the sacking of Claudio Ranieri in February.

But he failed to maintain the improved level in performance of the side and has paid with his job.
