And many felt Spurs' Champions League clash with the Galacticos was an audition for the hotshot forward.

But Mundo Deportivo report this morning that in fact it was Barca running the rule over Kane AND his Danish team-mate Eriksen during the 1-1 draw.

Former Nou Camp star and current director of the Catalans Roberto Fernandez was spotted in attendance for the showdown in the capital.

The reasons for the potential interest in 24-year-old Kane are obvious.

He has scored more goals (36) than Cristiano Ronaldo (32) in 2017 at club level to become one of the most-feared frontmen in Europe.

Spurs are determined to keep hold of him and will be equally keen to retain the services of Eriksen, aged 25.

The playmaker is the highest scoring Dane in Premier League history and found the net in the recent victory over Bournemouth.

But Barca have been monitoring him since his days at Ajax.

And they have watched his progress in North London with interest as he blossomed into a genuine world class talent.

Spurs have lost a number of star men leave the club over the years, such as Gareth Bale and Luka Modric to Madrid, but are now in a much-stronger position to fight off interested parties.

Mauricio Pochettino has led them to second place in the league in successive seasons and with a stunning new stadium on the horizon, they believe they can begin to seriously challenge the big guns over the coming years.

Tottenham have also recently indicated that they would want a fee more than the world-record £198m that PSG splashed out for Neymar this summer.

Despite the arrival of Ousmane Dembele from Dortmund, Barca are still looking for more talent to help replace the Brazilian.

They continue to keen on Liverpool's Philippe Coutinho, but it appears that they are also plotting swoops for the Spurs duo.
