Jose Mourinho takes sarcastic swipe at Liverpool’s ‘amazing’ defending after Man United’s win over Benfica
Portuguese was again labelled the enemy of football after his side's Anfield stalemate but he has hit back at the Kop club
JOSE MOURINHO seemed to have a sarcastic dig at Liverpool after Manchester United’s Champions League win.
The Old Trafford boss was accused of negative football against Jurgen Klopp’s men at the weekend in the turgid 0-0 draw.
On Wednesday United strolled to a 1-0 victory over Benfica after Marcus Rashford caught the Champions League’s youngest ever goalkeeper Mile Svilar off guard with a long-range free-kick.
And the Portuguese master of mind games could not wait to mention Liverpool in his post-match summary.
Mourinho said: “We knew the Benfica pressure could not stay for 90 minutes.
“The amazing defensive work Liverpool did against us, Benfica could not do that for the whole game.
“Without any pressure, we knew the goal would arrive.
“We forced a little more and with quality and sharpness we could have killed the game more.”

The former Chelsea boss is also in a war of words with his Stamford Bridge replacement Antonio Conte.
After another thinly-veiled dig at his old employers over their injury list, the furious Italian hit back.
Conte said: If he is speaking about me, I think he has to think about his team and start looking at himself, not others.
“I think that a lot of times Mourinho has to see what happens at Chelsea - a lot of time, also last season.”
Mourinho had started the latest spat by saying: "I never speak about injuries. Other managers they cry, they cry when a player is injured."
