Juventus join Manchester City and Barcelona in race for Dortmund midfielder Julian Weigl

Italian giants considering making a move for midfield ace in January transfer window in attempt to steal a march on rivals

JUVENTUS are targeting Borussia Dortmund star Julian Weigl - joining Manchester City and Barcelona in the list of interested clubs.

Dortmund midfielder Weigl has established himself as one of the best young talents in Germany over the past 18 months.

And now the Bundesliga club could face a January battle to keep hold of him according to reports in Italy.

CalcioNews24 say defending champions Juve have been monitoring Weigl throughout the year as they look to bring in players to continue their dominance in Serie A.

And they claim Juve - who have won the title for the last six years in Italy - are considering trying to sign the midfielder when the transfer window opens in January.

Weigl, 22, has made a huge impact in Germany since moving to Dortmund from 1860 Munich two years ago.

He has quickly established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga and has already made five appearances for the German national team.

Boss Joachim Low has earmarked him for a place in his squad as Germany look to defend their World Cup title in Russia next summer.

But whether he is still playing in his home country by then is open to question with Juventus said to be keen to make a move in January.

Dortmund know they do not have the financial power to resist overtures for their star players, but are desperate to keep him at least until the end of the season.

So it would need a bid in excess of £50million for them to even entertain selling a player who is contracted to the club for three years after this season.

Juve believe making an early move would see them move ahead of City and Barcelona in the race for Weigl's signature.

Both City and Barca are already happy with their midfield options this season and would prefer to wait until the summer before making any more changes.
