And according to Spanish news outlet Mundo Deportivo, the Catalan clubs sporting director was in attendance in Portugal to watch the Red Devils' Champions League clash on Wednesday.

However, Martial failed to have an impact on the match as he came on for the last 14 minutes to replace the injured Marcus Rashford.

It was Rashford who proved to be the hero for United at Estadio da Luz, as goalkeeper Mile Svilar walked his free-kick beyond the goal-line to gift the English side a 1-0 win.

The report states that the French international is one of Barca's top transfer targets, though United are believed to be determined to keep him at all costs.

Fellow Premier League rivals Arsenal have been reported to be keen on bringing Martial to the Emirates.

Compatriot Arsene Wenger has identified him as the perfect replacement to Alexis Sanchez, and is willing to fork out £50million for his services.

Martial's contract expires in the summer of 2019, and there are fears he may not commit to his future at Old Trafford.

The ex-Monaco maestro has started just twice in the top-flight this campaign, as he plays second fiddle to Rashford in the starting XI.

But with the teenager picking up a suspected knee injury, Martial could be set for an extended run in the side.

Fernandez was also on scouting duty on Tuesday evening when Real Madrid faced Tottenham at the Bernabeu in an eventual 1-1 draw.

Hary Kane and Christian Eriksen were those watched by the Barca director, as Spurs are in danger of losing more star players to Los Blancos.

Luka Modric and Gareth Bale have departed North London for La Liga, however the Welsh wizard could be set for a shock return to the Lilywhites.
