Why Leicester City earned MORE in Champions League money than winners Real Madrid last season
Figures reveal the Foxes raked in more cash than the Galacticos and Manchester United pocketed more than double any other side in the Europa League
REAL MADRID actually earned LESS money than Leicester City in the Champions League last season - despite winning the competition.
The La Liga giants pocketed a £72.6million windfall for lifting the trophy for the second successive year.
But the Premier League Foxes outdid the Galacticos by raking in a whopping £73.2m - despite being knocked-out in the quarter-finals.
And they were not the only side to earn more dosh than the Bernabeu boys.
Italian side Juventus, who Real beat in the final in Cardiff, were the competitions biggest benefactors when it came to money.
The Serie A champs got £98.9m - the most by any side who competed in Uefa's showpiece during the last campaign.
Europe's governing body had a total of £1.25billion in their prize fund for the 2016/17 season.
It was teams from the English and Italian top-flights that took the greatest share of the money due to the TV deals being more valuable in those countries.

The lowest earners of all were Swiss side Basel with £14.6m.
They took the least out of all 32 teams who qualified for the group stages.

Meanwhile, less surprisingly it was Manchester United who netted the most in the Europa League.
The Red Devils collected £39.8m after winning the competition.
That was more than double the figure of any other club in the competition.
