Everton lining-up shock move to bring David Moyes back to the club to replace sacked boss Ronald Koeman
Former Manchester United manager spent 11 years at Goodison Park before taking over the reins at Old Trafford in 2013
EVERTON are lining-up a shock move to bring David Moyes back to the club to replace sacked boss Ronald Koeman.
The former Toffees boss splashed around £150million this summer, bringing in the likes of Wayne Rooney and Gylfi Sigurdsson.
The uncharacteristic spending launched a positive feeling around Goodison Park that Everton could finally challenge for a European spot.
However, the Merseysiders have limped into 16th place after their eight games - as they prepare to take on Arsenal at home on Sunday.
Now, Goodison chiefs are plotting a sensational return for Moyes - who had spent 11 years at the club before taking over the top job at Manchester United.
The Scot boss, 54, took over from Sir Alex Ferguson but struggled mightily before being given the boot and replaced by Louis van Gaal.
According to the Mirror, Moyes is one name in the frame to take over from under-fire Koeman, should the poor results continue.
However, the Toffees could face competition from the Scotland national team, who are looking to replace Gordon Strachan.
Everton at this stage appear to be the favourites, as Moyes has maintained a strong relationship with club chairman Bill Kenwright.
The Blues chief accepted Moyes could not turn down the United top job four years ago and holds no grudge over his departure.

Meanwhile, the feeling at the club has changed in the past 20 months since Farhad Moshiri bought 49.9 per cent of shares.
Moshiri had expected Koeman - particularly following his big-spending this summer - to push the top six all the way.
But with just two wins so far this season, things have hardly panned out that way, with Koeman now one of the favourites, along with West Ham's Slaven Bilic, for the axe.
Moyes also had disastrous spells at Real Sociedad and Sunderland since leaving United.
