Koeman spent £150million in the summer, but his side have endured a nightmare start to the campaign, as they languish in the relegation zone.

In an official statement, the Toffees said: "Everton Football Club can confirm that Ronald Koeman has left the Club.

"Chairman Bill Kenwright, the Board of Directors and Major Shareholder Farhad Moshiri would all like to express their gratitude to Ronald for the service he has given to the Club over the past 16 months and for guiding the Club to seventh place in last season’s Premier League campaign."

SunSport revealed earlier on that Everton are lining-up a shock move to bring Moyes back after he left in 2013.

Moyes - out of a job since he left Sunderland in the summer - spent 11 years at Goodison, guiding them to the FA Cup final in 2009 where they lost to Chelsea 2-1.

But he face stern competition to take control of the club vying to contest in the Champions League in the next few years.
