Phil Neville is interested in Everton job as club confirm David Unsworth is in temporary charge in Carabao Cup tie
PHIL NEVILLE has put his hat in the ring for the Everton job - as the club confirmed David Unsworth is in temporary charge.
Former defender Unsworth will be in the dugout during their clash against Chelsea at in the Carabao Cup after Ronald Koeman was sacked yesterday.
Koeman's side were thumped 5-2 by Arsenal over the weekend, in the latest in a string of disappointing defeats, including a Europa League loss to Lyon after going down 1-0 to Burnley in the Premier League.
Neville, 40, has previously worked as an assistant manager at Valencia and worked under David Moyes and Ryan Giggs at Manchester United.
The younger brother of former England defender Gary, Neville made 250 appearances for the Toffees over eight seasons after leaving Manchester United.
A club statement said: "Everton Football Club can confirm that David Unsworth will take temporary charge of the Everton first team, commencing with Wednesday night's Carabao Cup tie at Stamford Bridge."

Meanwhile Unsworth will be in charge of the club until they find a successor as they sift through various suitable candidates.
Among the managerial stars tipped for the job, former Bayern Munich boss Carlo Ancelotti, ex-Dortmund coach Thomas Tuchel and current Burnley boss Sean Dyche have been named as potential suitors.

According to reports, former Manchester United winger Ryan Giggs is also interested in both the vacant managerial roles at Goodison Park and Leicester.
The Toffees problems have been particularly frustrating for fans, given they have spent £150million on new talent over the summer.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Gylfi Sigurdsson and Davy Klaassen have simply not bedded in properly at the club - and they have failed to replace Romelu Lukaku, who headed to Manchester United over the summer.
