Meet the Michelin star chef to Manchester City’s multi-million pound squad who ‘feels like their mum’ as he cooks their meals

Jonny Marsh is hired to cook nutritional food for hungry Etihad players Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gundogan

THE Michelin star-trained chef who caters for Manchester City's stars has revealed: "Sometimes I feel like their mum."

Jonny Marsh is hired to cook and deliver nutritional food to hungry Etihad players Kevin De Bruyne, Kyle Walker and Ilkay Gundogan.

He told the BBC: "I prepare the food at home and I drop it off twice a week. With Kevin, it's always in his fridge, all ready for him whenever he wants.

"With Ilkay, I go round to his house every night and cook fresh for him so he can have it on his dinner table.

"Some nights I'll eat with him. I might make him something that he loves and I love and we eat together like mates do."

City's primary aim for some time now has been to win the Champions League.

Last season they crashed out in the last-16 to Monaco, but with Marsh's culinary skills, they will be hoping to go all the way.

He said: "The day before a game I get the schedule and I label it, 'This is what you have to eat the day before.'

"Straight from that he may have a game on the Wednesday so we hammer the recovery stuff, getting his recovery and energy levels back up for the midweek game.

"Champions League is the big one and we need the players at their absolute peak."

Marsh spends his days slaving over a hot oven to ensure City's players are in tip-top shape.

So when they miss dinner time he begins to panic.

He said: "There are surreal moments when you let yourself in and you're making their tea and all of a sudden you think 45 minutes [late] and you're thinking 'Have I got the wrong day?'

"I text them saying 'Are you eating today?' I feel like their mum!"

Despite being recognised by the prestigious Michelin Guide, Marsh's meals sometimes go to waste.

Remembering a particular incident with De Bruyne, he said: "The first day, he didn't like the food - salmon-gate, I like to call it. It was a dark time.

"There are no real kick-offs. There's no 'I'm not eating this'. You realise when he doesn't like it he doesn't eat it."
