SunSport revealed earlier this week how Mourinho tore into his players at the John Smith's Stadium after their shock 2-1 defeat to Huddersfield Town.

Mourinho hauled the squad back into training on Monday morning, usually a day off, so angry was he with the attitude of the players in the match.

The training ground was described as "a morgue" with morale at its lowest in the Mourinho era.

United bounced back in the Carabao Cup against Swansea in midweek, but on Sunday, the players knew better than to make a public appearance.

According to the Daily Mail, members of the squad had tickets but decided against making the trip back to London.

Heading into another crunch clash this weekend, against Tottenham on Saturday, Mourinho is hopeful the squad got his message.
