SOUTHAMPTON defender Virgil van Dijk netted an absolute screamer of a free-kick in Saints training on Friday.

The Dutch centre-back, 25, proved he is more than just a defensive rock with the peach of a strike.

Van Dijk - a summer transfer target for Liverpool and Chelsea - shared the clip on his social media accounts.

In the video, the Southampton star unleashes a swerving rocket of a shot towards the goal.

The ball beautifully evades the wall before kissing the underside of the bar as it bulges into the back of the net, past the helpless goalkeeper.

A clearly ecstatic Van Dijk channels his inner-Tim Henman to pull-off the perfect fist-pump.

The Dutch star posted the clip on Twitter and Instagram, captioned simply with the arrow in a target emoji.

A host of replies on social media, rather predictably, focused more on Van Dijk's future than the sensational strike though.

One Instagram user suggested he could still join Liverpool, commenting, "Watch out" to the Reds' primary dead-ball specialists Philippe Coutinho and Trent Alexander-Arnold.

Another brazenly asked: "Can you do that for Liverpool?"

While one simply begged: "Please come to Liverpool."

With Van Dijk's ability to strike an absolute peach of a free-kick and add some much needed stability into the back four, maybe Jurgen Klopp should go back in for the Dutch star.

As Liverpool begin to prepare for life after Barcelona target Coutinho, perhaps step one would be to bring in Van Dijk.
