But Jose Mourinho got a first win of the season against a direct title rival.

David De Gea's long kick out was flicked on by Romelu Lukaku, and Martial scuffed in the only goal of the game.

Despite the relatively low game, it was an entertaining match with action at both ends.

Hugo Lloris pulled off a great save to deny Lukaku, while the Belgian also hit the post with a terrific header.

Tottenham had won every match away from Wembley this season.

The run consists of 3,883 matches and started on October 30, 1937.

Mauricio Pochettino's men played well at Old Trafford and were arguably the better side.

But they were definitely missing their main man — with Christian Eriksen's balls over the top regularly headed clear by United's defenders.

Alli missed a great chance moments before Martial's goal which Kane would have devoured.
