Everton want Sam Allardyce to replace Ronald Koeman and save them from relegation this season

Former Crystal Palace and Sunderland boss is currently without a job and has turned things around at other clubs in the past

EVERTON are plotting a move for “Fireman” Sam Allardyce to save them from relegation.

The club’s top brass are split over who should be Ronald Koeman’s successor.

Goodison owner Farhad Moshiri wants another foreign manager, preferably former Chelsea boss Carlo Ancelotti.

But chairman Bill Kenwright is keen on a British appointment.

And former England boss Allardyce has a huge fan at Goodison in director of football Steve Walsh.

Walsh has been an admirer of Allardyce for a long time and would love to pair him with axed Leicester coach Craig Shakespeare.

While caretaker boss David Unsworth is popular at the club he needs to pick up points fast. If he does not, the club will swing into action for a more seasoned manager.

And Allardyce — with his reputation for putting out fires by saving clubs from relegation — is favourite.

Allardyce and Shakespeare have worked together during his brief spell in charge of England.

And Walsh is a big backer of the coach from their title-winning season with the Foxes.

And although Allardyce has hinted that he would like an international job, the opportunity to work with a couple of trusted allies and close to his Lancashire base would appeal.

Everton can also offer good wages and a survival bonus — the kind of deal that made him come back with Crystal Palace a year ago.

Owner Moshiri would like a big name boss.

Interim Everton manager David Unsworth describes his role as a 'top job' after loss against Chelsea

But the chances of persuading Italian  Ancelotti to join at this time — and  without his No 2 Paul Clement who is in charge of Swansea — are difficult and would need sky-high wages.

Unsworth can still stake his own claim.

However, he will have to produce results fast after Koeman’s disastrous start to the campaign left the club in the drop zone.
