JOSE MOURINHO has been criticised by Manchester United fans after taking another swipe at the way some of them are supporting the team.

Mourinho ripped into sections of the Old Trafford crowd last week after they booed his decision to substitute Marcus Rashford in the clash with Tottenham.

The United boss believes they do not give the same level of backing to Romelu Lukaku as they do Rashford

And in another dig, he has used the match programme ahead of tonight's Champions League clash with Benfica to make another dig.

Hinting he felt the crowd were not fully behind his team in the 1-0 win over Spurs, Mourinho wrote: "I hope you enjoy the game more than some of you did against Tottenham."

The swipe is the third time in four days Mourinho has openly criticised sections of the United crowd.

Immediately after Saturday's win he said: "I would like the supporters to explain to me why they don't support Lukaku so much because he gives everything.

"I think it is not fair when scoring the goal or not scoring the goal makes the whole difference. I don't think it is fair at all.

"So I'm a bit disappointed - but not with him. With him, I'm very pleased."

Then yesterday he went on the offensive again, claiming Lukaku was untouchable in his side.

He said: "For me, Lukaku is untouchable in my team and I think he should be untouchable in the support and the respect he deserves from the fans.

"Look, the fans are the fans and I also said that the fans pay for their tickets and are free to express themselves the way they want to express.

"But my job is to protect my players when I feel they deserve it. And Romelu always deserves it because what he does for the team is fantastic."

Yet his open criticism has not gone down well with some sections of the club's fan-base.

Several have taken to social media to vent their anger at the manager, warning him he will not come out on top in a battle between himself and the fans.
