Inter Milan close to Thomas Vermaelen loan deal with Everton set to miss out on Barcelona star this January
Former Arsenal ace has made just one appearance this season and fears for his place in Belgium's World Cup squad
INTER MILAN are reportedly set to win the race for Barcelona star Thomas Vermaelen.
TMW claims that the Belgian defender is closing in on a January loan move to the San Siro despite interest from Everton.
Vermaelen has made just one cup appearance Barca this season after returning from an impressive stint at Roma.
And the former Arsenal ace fears his World Cup place will be jeopardy should he continue to warm the bench at the Nou Camp.
Vermaelen tried to leave Barcelona last summer but failed to receive any offers, with the Spaniards looking to offload him permanently.
However, they’re now prepared to let the veteran leave on loan, and it seems Inter are ready to take advantage.

The resurgent Italian giants are finally back battling for the Serie A title after a number of years in the wilderness.
Luciano Spalletti has built an impressive team with the aid of some Chinese financial backing, and feels Vermaelen would be a perfect fit after the duo worked together at Roma last year.

A loan is apparently close to being agreed, and Vermaelen could also be joined by ex-Chelsea midfielder Ramires as he seeks a Chinese Super League exit.
However, it’s bad news for Everton, who now look set to miss out as they continue to search for Ronald Koeman’s permanent successor.
