Antonio Rudiger incredibly admits Chelsea ‘gave up’ after going 2-0 down in thumping at Roma

Blues defender gives a brutally honest account of Champions League defeat after a dire performance in Rome

ANTONIO RUDIGER has sensationally admitted Chelsea GAVE UP after conceding a second goal against Roma.

The Blues went on to lose 3-0 against the German international's former club.

And in a brutally honest post-match interview, he did not pull his punches.

He was being interviewed by an Italian journalist in English when he made the damning admission.

Rudiger, 24, said: "It's hard to find words.

"You can lose but it must be in a proper way... we gave up after the second goal.

"We didn't believe in ourselves, our heads were down.

"It was a really disappointing evening and we have to say sorry to the fans who came with us for the performance.

"It was an important game, of the course the coach is angry and disappointed - everyone has to be.

"We have to clear our minds and discuss this game again. There's a lot of things that weren't good.

"Sunday is a very, very important match."

Rudiger's team-mate Thibaut Courtois believes Sunday's clash is already a must-win for Chelsea.

The stopper, 25, said: "If we want to remain near the top of the Premier League then it is a must win game for us.

"I think City are nine points ahead, United is at four.

"Tottenham is just one in front but this game is a must win if you want to remain near the top and near the other teams.

"We will try to get three points and give our lives for it on Sunday."
