Cristiano Ronaldo blames ‘offside goals’ for Real Madrid’s woes after Tottenham defeat

Says Portuguese icon: 'It was a real blow to lose 3-1 and, in my opinion, it's not a fair reflection of what happened on the pitch'

CRISTIANO RONALDO blamed Real Madrid's Wembley horror show on Tottenham's first "offside" goal.

Real were thumped 3-1 by Tottenham in the Champions League on Wednesday.

The defeat followed their weekend loss to Girona, a result that saw them slip eight points adrift of La Liga leaders Barcelona.

Ronaldo reckoned an offside decision cost them dear in that game, too.

After reigning Euro kings Real had been rocked by two-goal Dele Alli and Co., he groaned:

"We're in a bad patch, we want to change it and that's what we'll do.

"We're at the start. It's the ending that counts. There's a lot of time to improve and I'm sure we can do it.

"Nothing has happened; they are bad spells. We can't always be okay. We have to be calm - I don't think the team is playing that badly.

"People try to look for things when you don't win [but] the team looks confident to me.

"I speak, I show my face, I'm confident. We're in a bad moment but things change.

"When you lose, things aren't as you want them to be. You have to support your teammates.

"It was a real blow to lose 3-1 and, in my opinion, it's not a fair reflection of what happened on the pitch, because their first goal [scored by Alli] was offside.

“It was the same in Girona, their second goal was offside."

Pepe, Alvaro Morata and James Rodriguez all left Real in the summer and some pundits claim the squad lacks its usual depth.

But Ronaldo also highlighted injuries to the likes of Dani Carvajal and Gareth Bale.

"The players who came in have a lot of potential," he said.

"Pepe, Morata, James made us stronger but the guys now are younger.

"We're also missing Carvajal, Bale... it's not a worse squad but we have less experience and that's very important.

"It's not an excuse. We can't give up."
