IT WAS A HAPPY second anniversary for Huddersfield boss David Wagner as they piled on the misery for the Baggies.

Dutchman Rajiv van la Parra curled in a superb strike from just outside the area a minute before half-time to split the teams.

It had been an awful first half before his intervention to set the John Smith’s Stadium jumping.

Not quite to the extent they did last time the fans enjoyed a day out here.

Then they beat Manchester United on one of the biggest days in their recent history.

But the same three points were available yesterday against struggling West Brom and just as valuable in their bid to stay in this Premier League.

Right now they are looking like doing just that under the incredible stewardship of Wagner.

He took over two years ago today with the club languishing in 18th place in the Championship.

Nobody could have dreamed of the journey Wagner would take them on.

The one Tony Pulis is taking West Brom on right now is very different.

That is two wins in 20 Premier League games going back to last season.

Those two wins came with their opening two fixtures at the start of this season but since then it has been downhill all theway with four draws and five defeats.

Even after the home team went down to ten after 57 minutes with Christopher Schindler’s second yellow card yesterday they could not break Town down.

Indeed it barely made a difference West Brom were so poor.

But in injury time Huddersfield goalie Jonas Lossl had to make two stunning saves from a James mcclean header and Matt Phillips shot.

Pulis job is under pressure and the travelling fans made their displeasure known.

WHAT THEY SAID

Huddersfield match-winner Rajiv Van La Parra: "I am a happy man! When we got the red card we had to play with 10 men for 30 minutes. They were pressing us really high with the long ball, but we did a great job at a man down. I think we deserved the win.

"Personally, it's nice to score my first Premier League goal. When I was in a position to shoot all I knew was I had to hit the target.

"Sometimes, when you shoot, you have a feeling that it was a nice hit. When it came off my foot I felt that, and it was funny because everyone in the crowd fell really quiet. It was great to see it go in.

"Wins at home this season will be really important - we have to push for wins at home. In this game we had to be patient and our supporters were right behind us, and I'm happy for them that we could get the win."

West Brom defender Jonny Evans: "Their keeper pulled off a few good saves at the end, and they hung on. That's disappointing for us.

"There were times when we should have played better, broken them down and created a few more chances earlier on. The fact they went down to 10 men should've meant the game swung in our favour but we couldn't find the goal.

"It's been a while since our last win but we keep our heads up into the international break.

"The fans are disappointed, aren't they? But they clapped us off the pitch at the end, which was good to see."
