L'Equipe report general manager Oliver Letang is working on finding a replacement, with Heinze his first choice.

Rennes are on a good run of results, with four successive wins, lifting them to tenth place.

However, there could still be a change of management.

Heinze knows Ligue 1 very well, having played for Paris Saint-Germain from 2001 to 2004 before joining Manchester United.

After leaving Old Trafford, the Argentine went to Real Madrid, before returning to France to play for Marseille in 2009, where he won the title.

Since retiring in 2014, Heinze became a manager in his native Argentina.

Despite not having the proper licence, he was named boss of Godoy Cruz, but was sacked after just two wins in ten games.

United's 2004-05 Player of the Year then took Argentinos Juniors in 2016, leading them to promotion before resigning.
