Manchester City ace Sergio Aguero will wear gold boots to face Arsenal after breaking club’s goalscoring record

Argentine hitman scored his 178th club goal last week to beat Eric Brook's long-standing record

SERGIO AGUERO wore gold boots against Arsenal after breaking Manchester City's goalscoring record.

But the Argentine hitman changed back to his traditional black boots in the second period after drawing a blank in the first half.

It took him just five minutes in the second half to fire City two goals ahead from the spot.

Aguero scored his 178th City goal in the 4-2 win over Napoli last week to break Eric Brook's 78-year record. 

And his commemorate his remarkable achievement, Puma gifted the 29-year-old a pair of limited edition gold boots to down the Gunners.

City also paid tribute to Aguero before the match with both sets of players giving the striker a standing ovation as he came out to a guard of honour.

The club honoured him with an award as he showed it off to the thousands in attendance who gave him a rapturous applause.

It took Aguero just 264 appearances for the club to break the long-standing record.

His Argentine compatriot and Barcelona legend Lionel Messi was quick to send Aguero a message of congratulations.

He said: "I just want to congratulate you on this record.

Can Arsenal succeed where everyone else has failed against Man City?

"I'm very happy for you, you deserve it. Keep on scoring many goals to make the record even better.

"You know I love you loads and I wish you all the best. Big kiss, see you soon!"

Boss Pep Guardiola started his star man against the Gunners with Gabriel Jesus left on the bench.

And his faith was repaid when Aguero put the ball away from the spot after Raheem Sterling had won the penalty.

City headed into the fixture on the back of 14-straight wins in all competitions and have already scored 23 goals at home - more than any other club in the league.
