It’s been a tale of woe for sacked West Ham manager Slaven Bilic

An official statement from the club read: "The Chairmen and board of West Ham United would like to place on record their thanks and gratitude to Slaven and his team for their services over the past two-and-a-half years, but believe a change is now necessary in order for the Club to move forward positively and in line with their ambition.

"West Ham United can confirm that Bilic’s coaching assistants Nikola Jurcevic, Edin Terzic, Julian Dicks and Miljenko Rak have also left the Club with immediate effect.

"The Club’s search for a new manager to take West Ham United forward is underway and an announcement regarding Bilic’s successor is expected to be made over the coming days."

Bilic gave the West Ham squad the day off from training believing they needed a rest as he was axed.

The Hammers are 18th and without a Premier League win since September's 1-0 victory against Swansea.

Moyes, who resigned after leading Sunderland to relegation last season, is in Britain and set to continue talks with West Ham today.

NEIL ASHTON West Ham is a snake pit and their desperate move for David Moyes as replacement for Slaven Bilic speaks volumes

The Scot, 54, has spoken to Hammers owners David Sullivan and David Gold over the telephone while working for beIN SPORTS in Qatar.

He is due to be handed the reins until the end of the season at which point the Irons will reassess.

Bilic's position at the club was discussed in October, but the club's owners decided to give him more time to improve.

He succeeded Sam Allardyce in June 2015 and led the Hammers to seventh place during his first season in charge.

But Bilic, 49, could only lead the club to 11th last season and has been in free-fall since West Ham failed to land his major targets in the summer.

Moyes spent 11 years in charge of Everton before a disastrous stint at Manchester United after succeeding Sir Alex Ferguson in 2013.

He tried his hand in La Liga with Real Sociedad but lasted just a season in charge before the axe swung.

Moyes' last job was at Sunderland but he failed to keep the Black Cats up and resigned at the end of the campaign.
